Practice Philosophy

In the intricate tapestry of life, we traverse a mosaic of experiences, thoughts, and emotions that collectively shape our existence. While many of these moments are a source of joy and inspiration, others can prove to be formidable challenges, potentially reshaping the course of our lives. As a dedicated therapist, I have developed a deep appreciation for the incredible inner strength residing within each individual, enabling them to confront and triumph over life's adversities. This innate resilience, when nurtured within the therapeutic partnership, flourishes through the pillars of trust, compassion, motivation, self-love, and self-assurance. Together, we embark on a transformative journey of healing, understanding, self-acceptance, and personal growth, fostering effective communication skills, adaptive coping mechanisms, and relaxation techniques. I hold a steadfast belief in the profound potential for change that therapy offers, and I am dedicated to assisting each client in their journey toward positive transformation and personal fulfillment.

Individual Therapy: Having my clients feel comfortable and motivated during therapy is my primary goal. Our therapeutic alliance will become the forefront of the healing process. With the guidance of evidence-based treatments I will bring into session assessment tools and techniques that will help understand my client’s needs and emotions. Together we will create an individualized treatment plan that will aid my clients accomplish their emotional and personal goals.

Couples Therapist: Collaborating with couples through the application of evidence-based treatments, I specialize in facilitating the healing of strained relationships and the development of healthy interaction patterns. My focus is on restoring positive relational dynamics, fostering effective communication, and ultimately enhancing the quality of intimate partnerships.

Emotional Dysregulation and DBT: I also help individuals navigate emotional dysregulation, a common challenge in today's fast-paced world. This is particularly crucial in cases such as borderline personality disorder. Drawing from the principles of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), I offer comprehensive guidance to those struggling with managing intense emotions, mood swings, or overwhelming emotional responses. With DBT as a cornerstone, I provide a safe and supportive space for clients to develop emotional regulation skills. Through evidence-based DBT strategies, we collaboratively work to empower clients in gaining control over their emotional well-being, fostering stability and resilience in the face of life's ups and downs. This integrated approach allows individuals to transform their emotional landscape and lead more fulfilling lives.

Millennials – Young Adults: I’ve learned from experience and as a therapist that having the right amount of knowledge, support, and tools to confront new challenges and identity exploration/realizations is essential. As young adults we are not only confronted by new emotional changes we are challenged with the exploration of vocational, emotional, and personal decisions. In my sessions, support and education will help these clients feel self-confident and motivation to tackle any situation life may bring.

Anxiety Healing: Recognizing that anxiety is a fundamental survival response, I acknowledge its vital role in navigating daily challenges, social situations, and life transitions. Nevertheless, life's demands can sometimes lead to overwhelming and maladaptive anxiety. In my therapeutic approach, I draw from research-based techniques and exercises to empower clients to confront and effectively manage anxiety, promoting emotional well-being and resilience.

Adjusting to Change / Life Transitions: Life is a constant journey of evolution, yet adapting to change is not always an innate skill. In my sessions, I offer vital support, educational insights, and self-exploration strategies to guide individuals through the process of transitioning and adjusting to the new phases and changes life presents. My goal is to empower clients with the tools necessary to navigate life's transformative moments with confidence and resilience.

I was born in Massachusetts but raised in my native island, Puerto Rico. I completed my undergraduate studies at Syracuse University, where I discovered my fervor for psychology. This sparked an interest that eventually led me to pursue a bachelor's degree in early childhood development, complemented by a minor in psychology. This multidisciplinary foundation laid the groundwork for my future endeavors. Determined to delve deeper into the field, I pursued a Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) degree at Carlos Albizu University in Puerto Rico. Seeking to broaden my horizons and enrich my clinical expertise, I relocated to Rochester, NY. It was there that I completed my internship at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), followed by a transformative Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC).

I recently relocated to Miami, FL with my family and am thrilled to be a part of this vibrant and multicultural city. In my leisure time, I relish moments spent with my husband and daughter, as well as simply relaxing. We share a love for culinary adventures and can often be found either whipping up new recipes at home or exploring the diverse array of restaurants in our neighborhood. Additionally, we cherish the beautiful Miami beaches and seize any opportunity to travel and visit family on our native island, Puerto Rico. It's the perfect way to connect with our roots and create lasting memories.
